SUBJECT: General Education Updates

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The General Education sub-committee approved these recommended updates to the courses offered:

1. Social Science: Begin offering US History since 1877 HI 102 as a Social Science credit option This course will be an option for the AAS in Applied Technologies degree starting fall 2025 Each program will determine if this History (HI) should be an option for Social Science credit requirements (along with Psychology/Sociology) 2. Biology and Anatomy & Physiology: Move to 8-credit Anatomy & Physiology I & II course offering- Phase out Biology BI 202/203 Anatomy & Physiology 5-credit course KBOR General Education credits are shifting to the 8-credit A&P course, and to preserve the Nursing Bridge with ESU, 8 credits will be required BI 1XX Anatomy & Physiology I (3 credits) with Lab (1 credit) will be offered in Fall 2024 and Spring
2025 BI 2XX Anatomy & Physiology II (3 credits) with Lab (1 credit) will be offered Spring of 2025 and Summer of 2025 BI 202/203 Anatomy & Physiology (3 credit) with Lab (2 credit) will be phased out and only offered in Spring of 2025 to meet degree requirements for Health Occupations Technology (HOT) Pre-requisites for Nursing (NSG) and Hygiene (HYG) programs will still accept the 5 credit A&P as pre- requisite if taken before Fall 2024 Advisors and Admissions staff will work with currently approved students and prospective students on The impact to other programs is a shift in credit hour totals and with the scheduling of courses

These changes were approved by the Instructional Services Committee on May 9, 2024. The updates and changes were presented to the Leadership team on May 21, 2024, and subsequently approved.

RECOMMENDATION: There is no action to be taken. This item is a notification to the Board of a College update.
