SUBJECT: New Early Childhood Education Program - Upcoming Approval

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

FHTC’s Academic Affairs/Instructional Administration, Health and Human Services Division Chair, and the Early Childhood Education Director/Faculty are seeking approval from the FHTC Board of Trustees (BOT) to submit a new Early Childhood Education (ECE) program application to the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR). This new program will be for a total of 34 course credit hours for the Technical Certificate B and 65 course credit hours for the Associate of Applied Science degree.

The attached course list/degree plan shows all of the general and technical education courses for the program and their sequence within the program. The anticipated initiation of the program will be in the 2023 fall semester, with the first technical certificate graduates potentially completing at the end of the spring 2024 semester, and the first AAS ECE graduates at the end of the spring 2025 semester.

Because of the immediacy of needing to submit the new program application to KBOR, FHTC administration will be requesting a special meeting in late January/early February to take action on approving the program with the BOT. The new program application needs to then be submitted to KBOR no later than February 10, 2023.
