Advancing Student Success: Strategic Plan 2025-2030

Strategic Area 1: High Quality Programs 2025 Student Placement Rate—97%. Please see the 2025 Placement attachment, which shows our placement for 2023-2024 graduates at 97%. We had an 88% response rate to arrive at these numbers. Student Engagement–Accreditation Criteria Walk. Students participated in a criteria walk to support the upcoming site visit. All of the criterion posters had post-its plastered all around them, giving us some significant feedback related to our students’ experience in how we support them. This input shapes our accreditation story and demonstrates how we live our mission every day. Professional Guest Speakers. Our faculty ensure students have access to the voice of the professionals in that field or industry. Kayla Delgado with the Lyon County Attorney's Office presented to LPN students on mandated reporting for abuse. Corina Snyder with Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline presented to Industrial Engineering students on energy infrastructure. We appreciate when professionals take time from their day to ensure our students have some knowledge of that sector's day-to-day, in-the-field operations.

Strategic Area 2: Well-Supported Employees All-Employee Updates – November 19-20, 2025. We have scheduled all-employee updates with Zoom access for November 19 from 3-3:45 p.m. and November 20 from 7:30-8:15 a.m. Items for review include the Precision Ag facility updates, the Great Colleges survey results, and guidance for budget planning in addition to Q&A from the employees. Faculty – Admin Discussion. Admin met with faculty to review questions, concerns, etc. A question was asked about the lactation room, and new processes have been implemented. Lisa Kirmer’s email (attached) explains those upgrades. Statewide Recognition and Professional Development Leadership. College employees were recognized for their contributions to student success and technical education at the Workforce Innovation Conference. Congratulations to Mr. Terry Rhoads, Industry Technology Division Chair and Computerized Machine Tool Engineering faculty for recognition as the Outstanding New Teacher and Ms. Lori Moore, Arts & Business Division Chair and Business Administration faculty, for her leadership Inside the Field. • In addition, Business Administration faculty Kenda O'Mara leads statewide Kansas Council for Workforce Education New Instructor Workshops. The new faculty across all of the technical education sectors gain valuable teaching/planning and assessment techniques.

Strategic Area 3: Optimized Facilities Please see Agenda 11.2. Hot Water Heater-Hospitality and Culinary Program. A new hot water heater will support the culinary kitchens with faster access to hot water for sanitation and compliance needs. This responds to a need that has been identified for a few years. Lactation Room Improvements. A request was made to ensure those students needing the lactation room could access it. We had perhaps made the room so cozy and inviting as private space that many students were using it as space to step away for a bit.

Strategic Area 4: Strong Partnerships Please see 11.3 - elected officials. Kansas Food Action Network and United Way of the Flint Hills. Brenda Carmichael is serving on a task force to ensure folks and families who are affected by SNAP-benefit cuts are supported. Data from this task force confirms that Kansans receive $33 million in SNAP benefits, and 2,355 individuals will be affected in Lyon County (1292 households). Emporia Area Business Conference. The College hosted this well-attended conference in the Trusler Conference
Center. City/County/QuikTrip Groundbreaking. The College hosted Friday the patrons who participated in the QuikTrip groundbreaking on Flint Hills Crossing. Culinary students provided some light snacks for the group who convened at the College after the groundbreaking event. This language is from the news release: "This milestone project has been years in the making, improving traffic flow, opening doors for future business development, housing growth, and job opportunities in Emporia. The new QuikTrip will serve as the cornerstone for future expansion. Hosted in partnership by the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce, Emporia Main Street, the City of Emporia, Lyon County, Flint Hills Technical College, and QuikTrip."
