Diana Martin gave a verbal report on the Board of Trustees meeting. She shared that technically the Board met twice this month, on the same day. First was a special meeting at 2:30 specifically in regard to the RFP for the next Chancellor. There was debate about requiring California Community College hiring experience from the search firm and discussion over DEI language in the RFP itself. Diana shared that she delivered a public comment on behalf of the DAC Classified Senate. In the comment, she asked the Board to build a genuine role for the Classified voice in the search process, not just for informational updates, and to prioritize a Chancellor who leads collaboratively and values every employee group. The RFP was approved with some changes. The main change was to say that the entire Board would review applicants, not a subcommittee of board members.

Diana continued that the regular board meeting started after the special meeting. The consent calendar passed except for the personnel actions item. This item was pulled because a Google search of a new hire came up in connection with pending litigation. The Board took a recess, reviewed with legal counsel, and came back and approved the item. An investigation into provisional employee status will take place. This is directly tied to public comments from provisional employees about the lack of back pay compared to regular classified staff. The Trustees are requesting that HR report back to the Board. They were hoping for a report by the next meeting, but it's looking more like September or October. The Board floated the idea of creating a new Board member Clerk role. The role would run meetings but not take minutes or log votes, and would allow for meetings to run with only three people out of five. Diana shared that this item did pass with some changes. She mentioned that she doesn't know how this is going to actually reflect in the future, but will follow up when she has more information. Another item to report on was the process for a Trustee to introduce a Board resolution. The Board wants to know how they can get their resolutions on the agenda and how to get their resolutions passed. Most resolutions fall in line with Ed Code and the State Chancellor's Office. The Trustees had some grievances about the fact that their flag resolution had been stalled. The Chancellor responded that participatory governance is a right in that process, not an option.

Diana reported on ASC. A new DSPS Counselor was approved along with the District's capital construction plan and four HR Board Policies. The management contracts, which had been pulled several times from other Board meetings, were approved.
